The EU stands united behind Northern Ireland, while also protecting our internal market.

I invite the UK government to engage with us earnestly on our package of enhanced opportunities. With these proposals, I believe we could be in the homestretch when it comes to the Protocol. pic.twitter.com/ECyhYYWB4I
"The EU’s proposals to break the impasse over the Northern Ireland Brexit protocol have gone “beyond expectations” of local businesses who say the bloc has listened to their demands and come up with solutions."https://t.co/54sowLyGB8

“Boris Johnson did tell me personally… after agreeing to the protocol, he would sign up to changing that protocol and indeed tearing it up”

Heard Donaldson on BBC Radio Ulster Evening Extra. When asked about the EU proposals on the NI Protocol he never once referred to consulting with business to see what they thought, he spoke only of how the proposals related to what the DUP wanted. That's not what we pay him for.

Just watched the EU’s full conference by Maroš Šefčovič. My opinion, it was wonderful diplomacy. Conciliatory, optimistic and firm. He spoke of the EU’s core aim; creating and sustaining, a stable and peaceful framework for the people of Northern Ireland. https://t.co/bw34KiMItr

The EU Ambassador said they did ask people in NI. The new proposals are the result of discussions with the people of NI.

A simple explanation for why ECJ needs to have role in Northern Ireland
— davidallengreen (@davidallengreen) October 13, 2021
1. Northern Ireland still part of single market and customs union
2. The relevant law for both is EU law
3. The ultimate authority for interpreting EU law is ECJ
If (1) then (2)
If (2) then (3)
So Cummings is *openly* admitting that he and others agreed to the Protocol to win a general election, with no intention of abiding by it. Reminder: that is the Northern Ireland peace process they were playing with to win an election.
— John Cotter (@John_Cotter) October 12, 2021
If the role of the ECJ is such an obstacle to the Northern Ireland Protocol, why did Lord Frost negotiate and agree that role; and how has it become such an obstacle when the ECJ has not issued a single ruling on the protocol and doesn’t even have any cases pending?

Humbug
I am afraid you give the UK too much credit on this. It is clear they couldn't care less about Northern Ireland. They are clearly using the protocol as as an excuse to reneg on the withdrawal agreement and then blame the EU for all of the ills of brexit…
— brexitears (@brexitears1) October 13, 2021
Simon, unfortunately nothing will appease those who complain about the (NI) protocol. The only thing that would appease these people is reinstating the border on the island of Ireland and thus there can be no compromise. These are also the people who cheered the Brexit deal.

I can only imagine the amount of work (as well as stress and frustration) that went into making this possible.

If this goes through we'll have ppl like @MichaelAodhan @Big_Kells and many others to thank.
