Four people – including the attacker – were killed and more than 40 injured in a chaotic incident in Westminster, when a car rampaged along the pavement on Westminster Bridge before crashing into the railings outside the Houses of Parliament. The attacker stabbed a policeman at the entrance to the Palace before being shot by other members of the Metropolitan Police’s parliamentary protection section.
(note – reports late on Wednesday had put the death toll at five; this was revised down to four early on Thursday, no explanation as to why)
