We're currently having a debate in Parliament as to how we can ensure the British Prime Minister complies with the law after he just said he wouldn't.
Our country is irredeemably fucked.

It really is absolutely gobsmackingly incredible how utterly irrelevant Labour are in this whole shitshow.
Like a D-plot in a feature movie that you wish had been cut from the final edit so you could spend more time seeing what’s going on in the main threads.
— Kris Nixon (@belfastbarman) October 19, 2019
Niche alert – if Letwin amendment passes, it is too late for the govt to pull the main vote on the deal, but it can be 'negatived' – ie if the govt doesn't provide tellers or no one shouts 'aye' on the second call (yes I know) then the vote could just come to a halt

And all for what? Not Brexit. This is because we're leaving the single market and customs union. This is all because of an obsession with ending free movement, which wasn't even a problem in the first place. The absurd short-sighted, cowardly idiocy of it.

Even if he doesn't quite win today it feels increasingly as though Boris Johnson will win his Brexit within days. The Remainers have been outmanoeuvred. Their only way to stop this was No Confidence vote and National Unity Govt – and they couldn't agree amongst themselves.

Keir Starmer’s speech is eloquent, rich in evidence and measured argument, and therefore hugely irritating to all the MPs who have decided that today is the day to throw in the towel.

Today’s most fundamental point. If, in 2016, voters had been presented with a choice of status quo or a deal which would remove all guarantees on protections, threaten key industries, put up economic barriers in our own country and make us 5% poorer, how would they have voted? https://t.co/A4D6t4otrG
— Jonathan Lis (@jonlis1) October 19, 2019
As @BorisJohnson seeks to ‘reassure’ MPs today whether workers’ rights for @UKLabour or delayed no deal to ERG, anyone tempted to believe him should look around and see those who have har his reassurances before. May. DUP. There is nobody and nothing he won’t chuck under a bus

Deeply offensive of the Brexit Sec to use the memory of Mo Mowlem in the chamber to urge us to vote to leave the EU. Mo was a passionate European who believed it was in all our interests to stick together. She would never have stopped fighting for us to #Remain #PeoplesVote 🇪🇺🇬🇧

Johnson has broken virtually every past promise he has made on Brexit. How anyone could believe promises he makes now on workers’ rights or anything else is beyond me. ‘Caveat emptor’ should be the words ringing in ears of any Labour MP thinking of backing this deal.

Boris Johnson’s deal might well pass today. But had Theresa May proposed exactly the same thing, word for word, he would have opposed it and so would much of the ERG. It was always about internal power in the Conservative Party. Piece from me. https://t.co/JFGGvc0WMj

The chronology of votes tomorrow is very important.
Selected amendments are voted on first. If a selected amendment passes, the Commons then votes on a main motion *as amended* rather than the original motion. (1/x)
