New York bomb suspect arrested after firefight

Update 4.30pm London:

Chelsea bomb suspect Ahmad Rahami was taken into custody in Linden NJ on Monday after what was described as a shootout with police. Two officers are understood to have been wounded in the operation. It is unclear if other suspects are still at large.

Manhunt for New York bomb suspect as UN General Assembly kicks off

As investigations continue into the weekend’s bomb incident in midtown Manhattan, with police now seeking a suspect, there is even greater security than usual in New York as the UN General Assembly is under way, with the expected arrival of world leaders – and the accompanying logistical problems – later this week.

Following the Chelsea explosion and the removal of a second, ‘pressure cooker’ device, police detonated a suspect package, part of a number found in a rucksack near a train station in Elizabeth, New Jersey.
