There are still plenty of questions beyond the breathless headlines over the massive “leak” of documents from a Panamanian law firm covering the offshore investment activities of the world’s wealthy.
There seems to be a significant grey area about how the documents were “leaked” – was it as a result of data theft, or were they passed by someone who was legally entitled to have them? If the latter, why? Either way there are privacy implications, but some clarification on that aspect would provide important context.
So far, while being all very entertaining, it only seems to prove that the people who make the rules have no incentive to change them while they’re benefiting from them. And is that really “news”?
